Alliant Employees Power Social Impact

 

Using a Community Innovation Challenge process, Alliant employees gained valuable skills and helped community nonprofits.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

Alliant Energy, through the Alliant Energy Foundation, supports a huge number of nonprofit organizations through its annual grants program. Julie Bauer, the foundation’s executive director, and her team were looking for new ways Alliant Energy could help nonprofits create positive community impact. They knew their grants helped facilitate programming but understood nonprofits needed other supports too. Julie saw Creative Adventure Lab’s innovation services as a way to optimize nonprofit innovation and amplify their impact.

THE APPROACH

We delivered a process that allowed Alliant Energy to both 1) help area nonprofits move core strategic priorities forward, and 2) engage more than 100 Alliant Energy employees hands-on innovation training.

We facilitated 1-day Community Innovation Challenges for Alliant Energy in Madison, WI and Cedar Rapids, IA. Each process helped Alliant employees learn key innovation skills, which they immediately applied to help select area nonprofits solve pressing challenges.

THE IMPACT

By leveraging our unique approach, Alliant Energy provided innovation training to 80 employees, leveraged employee talents to help 6 area nonprofits solve core operational challenges, and found a new way to amplify their social impact goals.

The Ideathon was a very valuable experience for Badger Prairie Need Network and provided great feedback that has resulted in our organization trying a new approach for orientation and training of volunteers.
